SMART Ride 8

Completed my fourth SMART Ride last weekend, SMART Ride 8.  What a great event, benefiting AIDS agencies throughout the State of Florida.  Year to date, SMART Ride 8 has raised over $675,000 and a little under $3 million in 8 years.  All of which has been donated to the participating agencies.

I was proud to ride with and be a member of Team Mile Zero Hereos.  Our recently formed team raised over $30,000 alone through car washes, raffles, 50/50’s, silent auctions and social cocktail hours.  A huge THANK YOU to Nancy from Salsa Loca in Key West for sponsoring our team jerseys and supporting us during the event.  For more information, make sure to check out the SMART Ride.  I can’t wait for next year’s ride!  Until then check back to see what other great rides myself and the Mile Zero Hereos  (website coming) will be participating in.  Next up…Kids In Distress Inlet Challenge.

STAY FIT STUDIO TO HOST CHARITY FUND RAISER.

Supporting the community is something Stay Fit Studio believes in. On Saturday November 13 they will feature a charity event in support of the upcoming SMART RIDE 7.

In order to help raise money for several riders participating in Smart Ride 7, Stay Fit Studio will host a 2 hour double spin fund raiser.  The fund raiser is scheduled for Saturday November 13, 4-6pm at Stay Fit Studio, 804 White Street. “We are asking members of Stay Fit and anyone in the community to “buy a bike” and donate any contribution for a group of riders participating in The Smart Ride, said Warren Benjamin, co-owner of Stay fit Studio. All money raised will go directly to a group of riders in The Smart Ride as they have a pledge amount they must reach.”

The group of riders, known as the Keys Kruisers, have been staging fund raisers in Key West in support of the several HIV/AIDS organizations throughout Florida.  Rider rep Clinton Curry and other team members have staged several events in hopes of reaching their financial goal. “Stay Fit will be our last fund raiser before The Smart Ride and we thank them for their support.”

Members of the community can call Stay Fit at 294-0693 and reserve a bike for the Saturday event.  The two hour spin will be followed by a post-party for everyone to attend.  Stay Fit Studio is located at 804 White Street.

SMART Ride 7 training update

Our Sunday ride was a great one!  Six of us headed out for a 30 mile roundtrip to Baby’s Coffee.  This was Phil and Dean’s last ride before heading off to California later this week for the AIDS LIFE CYCLE ride.  Best of luck to you.  Of course, best of luck to Elaine as well.  I can’t wait to hear about your experiences.

The time has come now for a special announcement-  Moe has her MOJO back!  Check out the video of Moe riding Sunday.  She kicked it into high gear.  Here is a great big WELCOME BACK.

We will be riding this Sunday, leaving from Stay Fit Studio on White Street.  Remember 7:30am, bring water, check tire pressure and have all flat tire repair gear.  See you there!
